Pagers - FAQ's

Why do I want a pager?
Paging is the most cost effective and reliable means of keeping in contact, either over a wide geographic area or a fixed location. Pagers also run for extended periods of time due to superior battery life, often exceeding 40 days on a single AAA or AA battery. Pagers can be used in conjunction with your cellular service to screen incoming calls and to minimize the use of Your cellular phone battery.

What should I look for when selecting a paging service?
In a word - coverage. There are many low cost services available, but what you want to be sure of is that you have service wherever you require to be in touch. Before selecting a service provider you should determine where you are going to use the service and be sure that service will be available in those areas. Another factor that should play a major role in your decision-making process is Customer Service. What is the difference between Word Messaging and Numeric Messaging?
A numeric pager will receive a tone or vibrate alert followed by the display of a telephone number to be called back by the user. Word pagers are capable of receiving a full text message that was entered by the calling party or placed through a 3rd party operator. In addition to receiving a text message from a calling party, Word Pagers can also receive news and information services and in some cases E-mail and facsimile.(Word Paging is not available in all markets).

Will my coverage always be the same?
Future Communications works hard to provide a consistent and reliable signal for your paging service. However there are many factors that a system's coverage is dependent on, including: Transmitter power, Antenna height, Transmission Frequency, Trees, foliage, hills and buildings.

Verizon Wireless offers text messaging for my digital phone, why would I need a pager?
Future Communications offers many types of messaging services including traditional numeric paging, word paging, Digital Text Messaging, Digital Numeric Paging and Wireless Data applications. We offer these services because we want to provide flexibility and choices to our customers, so they can choose the service that best fits their needs. Before deciding you should ask yourself these Questions; Do you want your communication device to be with you all the time? Do you need your device to be on all the time? What type of device will you be utilizing and what is it's size? Are you more likely to carry a phone with you all the time or wear a pager on your belt? Is the battery life of your device a concern? Once you determine how and where you want to communicate you can then select the service that best suits your planned usage.

Because of the superior battery life, quite often a pager is used in conjunction with cellular service. The user can screen calls and determine who and when to call someone back. Also the small size, and on all models the vibrate alert feature, allow you to use your pager where you may not want to bring your cellular phone or PDA. A pager can be worn into any meeting, where you can be silently alerted to incoming messages without disturbing others in your group.

I'm on the road often, can I get service with an 800 number?
Yes, you can select to use a toll free number (at additional costs) for your paging service. This provides greater flexibility for your customers or family members to conveniently reach you.
